All over the area from New York up to Albany you find Dutch names, reminding people of their country of origin.
Flushing Meadows: the meadows by Vlissingen;
Wall Street (the protection wall around the city of New Amsterdam), Amsterdam Avenue, Van Dam Street, Van Wyck Expressway.
Harlem (Haarlem), Brooklyn (Breukelen), The Bronx (named after the Dutch settler Jonas Bronck who had a farm there), The Holland River, Spuyten Duyvil (Spuitende Duivel);
Staten Island (as in Staten Generaal, the Dutch parliament). Another explanation is the story about a Dutch boy who came by boat to America and asked in his Amsterdam accent: ‘Is that an island?) Rhode Island (rood = red eyland), Sandy Hook (Sant Hoek);

Theodore Roosevelt, former president of the United States, descended from the early Dutch settlers. As well as the presidents Franklin Roosevelt and Martin van Buren.
In New York is a part with all kind of Waverly names. In the Netherlands is close to Amsterdam at the Waver River The Waverly House.
