Fun, pleasure, humor and amusement are the soap that makes life easier, lighter and just makes you feel better.
The next message on the website of Dutch Cowboys is funny: “Give Us Back New York. The city was founded by Dutch settlers and originally called New Amsterdam, but was lost to the English and later the Americans during the course of history.
However, the movement “Give Us Back New York” is not happy with the way the Americans have governed the city. Their plans are to make the Big Apple “the Big Orange”, and implement all sorts of Dutch elements: streets made into canals, tulips in Central Park, orange yellow cabs. The bell has chimed! The time has come for New York to be returned to its righteous owner: The Netherlands!”
This could be a joke by a stand-up comedian. This is art, and constitutes a humoristic twist of reality that New Yorkers and Americans in general, can appreciate and are good at.
In Amsterdam, at Leidseplein, is the theatre of Boom Chicago. There, American stand-up comedians share their art with the Dutch.
The early Dutch settlers have been described as people who liked to make silly jokes about other persons. They were speaking than with loud voices together with loud laughing about their own joke.
The Dutch makes jokes about their neighbors, the Belgians just as Americans do that about the Polish-Americans. Of course the Belgian and Polish joke right back.
Both America and The Netherlands know April Fool’s day, on April first. An example of a Dutch joke in 2004 was a commentary in a television program for kids, in which they were searching for a small dog to be a companion to the Dutch astronaut André Kuipers in the space station. They showed a kind of tiny dog toilet that would be in the station.
