Energy

Energy is really a characteristic of the USA. Energy means the power to connect, to attract, to move towards a goal, to get ahead, the fuel for going fast and easy.
It is in the air: you feel, sense, see and hear it.
The city of New York is an energy center. when you enter the city it is as if you plug yourself into the electric grid.
Every day, millions of people are there, filled with energy, and reaching towards their goal. Thousands of visitors are there, wandering around, and being impressed by all the possibilities.
In 2008, the city needed 11,022 mega-watts to keep the city energized, moving and connected to the communication systems.
To be successful, healthy and in shape, using your energy and getting new energy is essential.
An easy and possible way for everyone to refuel, is playing ‘Double Dutch’.
Double Dutch is a skip rope game, which you play by turning two ropes in eggbeater fashion. While the ropes are being turned, a third person jumps in. Dutch settlers brought the game to the Hudson River trading town of Nieuw Amsterdam (now New York City). When the English arrived and saw the children playing their game, they called it Double Dutch. Since then the game has, particularly in urban areas. It became a favorite pastime to sing rhymes while turning and jumping. During World War II, the game was often played on the sidewalks of New York.
Stephanie, a young girl from Brooklyn, explained as she untangled her feet from the doubled-over orange rope. “If you hear the rhythm, you just flow right into it.” Stephanie was practicing the game, which will become the newest of 35 varsity sports played in New York City schools. As part of an effort to increase the number of students - particularly girls - participating in competitive athletics, the city will create Double-Dutch teams at ten high schools in Bushwick, Bedford-Stuyvesant and Harlem where the ropes have long swung on asphalt playgrounds.
