Dreams

A Native American proverb says: ‘Everyone who is successful must have dreamed of something.’
Martin Luther King is known for his statement: “I have a dream.”
Henry Ford had his dream to bring the car to the American people. Thomas Edison approved of Ford’s automobile experimentation. Ford’s first car was the Quadricycle, with bicycle wheels. His Model T was an engineering breakthrough.
Henri Ford was also a pioneer of ‘welfare capitalism’, designed to improve the lot of his workers. Efficiency for him meant hiring and keeping the best workers.
The slogan for the Olympics in Beijing 2008 was ‘One world, one dream’.
Bill Gates of Microsoft had his wish: “The whole world has a computer.”
At the Edgar Casey Center in Virginia Beach, VA, there is a dreams archive. People from all over the world can tell their dreams, and ask for an interpretation.
Edgar Casey said: “Dreams are there for our benefit. Nothing of importance happens to us without first having been foreshadowed in our dreams. Dreams help us to develop our highest potential.”
Tom Wolfe, author and journalist: ”I think The American dream is very much alive. That’s why there’s incredible immigration to this country. And the idea is that no matter where you start out, you have the freedom to reach the height and your ability will enable you to do that.”
Dreaming nurtures the excitement of limitless possibilities, urging us to plan, to work, and ultimately to believe in ourselves.
An example of a dream come true: The Brooklyn Bridge. It is hard to believe that for much of New York’s history, this simple, solid landmark was considered a pipe dream, an impossible feat of engineering. While the early Dutch settlers talked about building a bridge to connect the cities of Brooklyn and New York, it wasn’t until 1869 that John Augustus Roebling put together a viable plan and managed to acquire adequate resources, and another fourteen years until the Brooklyn Bridge opened to traffic.
If we look four hundred years back, what would have been the dream of the Dutch settlers? If we look four hundred years forward, what could our dream be for this country?

If you think about wanting to be successful, what is your dream?
What kind of examples do you have of dreams to have come true?
