Barack Obama

Since January 2009 Barack Obama is the 44th president of the USA.
His election makes America again a New world. A proof that roots are a resource for presidents too.
Recent research shows that the ancestors of Barack Obama, the family Blossom, fled out of Britain in 1609 for religious freedom to Leiden in The Netherlands. The route for freedom goes through The Netherlands. From there his ancestors moved on to the USA in 1629 to Massachusetts. The family had three children, Thomas, Peter and Elisabeth. Elisabeth is born in Leiden and she is the ancestor of Barack Obama. And there is also said that president Bush is a descendant of Elisabeth’s brother Peter. That makes them far cousins.
President Obama is than the eighth president with an ancestor in Leiden. Also the presidents Grant, Coolidge, Taylor, Roosevelt and both Bush have a ‘Leidse Pilgrim’as ancestor.
Barack Obama also had a Dutch nanny, Ans Michels. As little as he was, Barack Obama helped Ans to improve her English.
In the present economic situation and still being in the beginning of the 21st century, a huge task is waiting for Barack Obama. We, the people, together with the president can make it work and so we do!
