Art

Art is a human activity, made with the intention of stimulating the human senses as well as the human mind, by transmitting emotions and/or ideas.
The magic of art is that it is the herald of cultural change, to make new worlds and communities.
Beauty and creativity inspire the artists to show their engagement with the time and society they are part of.
Rembrandt van Rhijn was a famous Dutch painter in the Dutch Golden Age in the 17th century. American museums and art collectors love to have and exhibit his pieces of art. Rembrandt is unique in his use of light and dark.
The modern American artist Andy Warhol is highly appreciated in Europe and The Netherlands. One of his famous portraits is of the Dutch Queen Beatrix.
Willem de Kooning is more of an American artist, although he was born in The Netherlands. He is also known for his black and white enamel compositions.
Larry A. Willette, one of De Kooning’s students, at one time was standing on West Broadway in New York to sell his painting New York Paper Lady. During a visit in 1979 by Elaine de Kooning, the painter’s wife, to Willette’s studio she said: “If Bill (De Kooning) was still doing women he’d be doing them like you.” A Dutch couple still enjoys this lady every day in their Netherlands home ‘The Waverly House’.
The year 2009, the Hudson 400 year, will see great art exhibitions, inspired by the American–Dutch relationship. The MoMA, for example, has already begun working towards an exhibition about Vincent van Gogh. The Museum of the City of New York brings us ‘The worlds of Henry Hudson’. And the New York State Museum in Albany has The 1609 Exhibition, displaying images from the collections of several American and Dutch museums.

How could you use art in your company as a herald of cultural change?
If you could organize an exhibition about long-term relationships, what would you show and how would you display the art?
